Viltin Gallery inivites you to to the exhibition „Planetary Man” which visualizes the contemporary man in the process of his virtual planetary evolution. „The Planetary Man” projects this century's transgression of ethnical and continental borders. The swift developments in economy, the massive migration, crisis and political changes open new possibilities of growth. Therefore, the mentality of the contemporary man takes a global amplitude, surpassing the speed of the modern technology. The exhibits are displayed through geo-political relations. The linkage between the two countries: the post-soviet Moldova and Castro’s Cuba; is created from the recent past history, as well as from the shared periphery of consciousness. All of us who live in this region and saw the decline of socialism understand that the frustrations stemming from the past, such as the desire to belong to the centre, did not dissolve with the change of regime. The “centres” continue existing, but due to highly informed societies, they become closer and more accessible, transferring to other positions and facing the world’s smaller and less dominant countries with other problems.
The concept of the exhibition applies various sampling and presentation methods to reveal the planetary image. The bilateral connexion reveals the identity of both countries: Moldova and Cuba in Hungary. Hungarians have affair with both countries concerning the economy and labor migration. The Cuban migrants’ establishment wave can be considered the most exotic chapter of the migration history in Hungary and the Moldavian search for identity is one of most graspable ethnic and political process after the regime. These historic moments are also enhanced in the exhibition with the help of tangible-associations.
The chosen artists have proven during their international appearances that their art conception can be measured globally. Working in a variety of media and sharing different manifestations, the 9 artists help the audience in tracing parallels between the locality and universality of artistic expressions. The art works enhance the individuals’ search of identity and their assimilation with the Cuban and Moldovan time and place, respectively.
‘Planetary’ is just one form of expression in contemporary art amongst other possibilities. Therefore a performance of a Cuban and a Moldovan choreographers will open the exhibition – by which the organizers try to meet the expectation and aspiration of the 21st century.
