“Sandy's work defined the visual landscape of Hollywood,” said Michael Savas, chair of LCAD Illustration department. “He had said to me, ‘I don't choose a technique, I choose an idea that's new and exciting I have faith that it will work.'”
Dvore shot to the upper echelons of Hollywood illustrators and artists when he designed the back cover art for Sammy Davis Jr. in Variety Magazine and the iconic Universal Studios logo. Ads for Judy Garland for Judy at Carnegie Hall followed as well as designing some of the most iconic title sequences for television including The Walton's, The Partridge Family, The Young and the Restless and Knots Landing. Dvore designed iconic images for top Hollywood industries and publications, including Paramount Pictures, the Lorimar Co.,Variety, Universal Studios and International Creative Management.
His film credits include Columbia Pictures’ For Pete’s Sake (1974) starring Barbra Streisand; Hall Bartlett’s 1973 film, Jonathan Livingston Seagull which received two Academy Award nominations; Paramount’s Lipstick Margaux and Mariel Hemmingway; and American International Pictures,' Blacula, the first film to feature a black vampire and one of the top grossing films of 1972. Dvore won an Emmy in 1987 for Carol, Carl, Whoopi and Robin, starring Carol Burnett, Carl Reiner, Whoopi Goldberg and the late Robin Williams.
After Savas spent an entire day with Dvore at his studio, he sensed his deep commitment to his art and his confidence along with the ability to solve visual problems. “I left that day with a profound feeling that I had been in the presence of someone uniquely special,” Savas said.
