New York cool meets South Beach glitz at this 334-room tower resort, some of whose features teeter on the fine line between hip and publicity stunt (there's a private lounge set behind a 50-foot long glass shark tank). What the hotel lacks in beachfront—the private, man-made beach is for lounging and tanning only, since Biscayne Bay below cannot be reached easily on foot— it makes up for in amenities (think butlers handing out iPods, Bulgari towels and Evian misters). Managed by the company of Adrian Zecha—the mastermind of the Aman hotels—the Setai is an Asian-Zen enclave in midst of South Beach's liveliest nightlife. Fans of this intimate, low-key hotel (including Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck and Bono) would prefer to keep it off the South Beach radar forever.
