The days when Katherine Hepburn had to use the staff entrance (she insisted on wearing pants, going against the lobby's dress code) are gone but an old-world vibe remains at this Mayfair classic, which has housed presidents, kings, prime ministers and movie stars. The 203 rooms artfully combine modern comforts and Art Deco charm. Service is top-notch. -reviewed by Indagare Travel, Inc.
Art, antiques and original 19th-century architectural flourishes were preserved in the recent $123 million renovation, but the Connaught also firmly stepped into the 21st century, with sleek updates, high-tech amenities and even a celebrity chef (Michelin three-starred Frenchwoman Hélène Darroze), who runs the legendary Grill restaurant. -reviewed by Indagare Travel, Inc.
Scarlett Johansson, Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet have all stayed at this intimate and clubby hotel in the heart of London’s theater district. The property has 59 individually designed bedrooms and its dramatic clientele surely approve of such whimsical touches as fabric-covered mannequins and plush four-poster beds. -reviewed by Indagare Travel, Inc.
