Blinded by agreement?

by Nomad2, 04.09.05 05:59 pm

Is it possible that most critics, galleries and art historians are unable to move without the confirmation of people they think as higher than themselves or as authorities? Why are real choices (of artists or "movements") always and only made in consent with others? Let me know what you think are the reasons for this common behaviour or policy in the "art world" which is quite discouraging.

I disagree. Often it is just one person that's a gallerist or curator or critic who likes your work and s/he moves the board or business or institution on your behalf. At least that has been my experience.

You have to remember to hit space because you have to reload. than that just dont panick and hit the tower or the wall first. Once you clear the one the other is easy. The next level is a cakewalk. I dont understand why this game is "locked." Who would buy it? Are there any boss levels? This smells like a high school programming project.

So its a hollow victory right? I assume you finished Mission 1.

"Is that all there is," you ask yourself. Well yes. That IS all there is.

I'm here to tell you, as a critic, that there is more to it than that. This video game is derivative of a video game which is in turn derivative of the WWII movies, which in turn is derivative of WWII which is in turn derivative of say, the Romans, the Greeks, and so on.

The video game is actually a franchise now - including medal of honor, medal of honor allied assaul;t, and medal of honor something or other.

The one I played - sorry I don't know which, had a level where you were storning the beach at Normandy. Well, that level has some nice gameplay. You come out on the beach and hide behind tank traps. Then you find various medis, because you take fire and are wounded constantly. You navigate thebeach through several shell craters as machine guns and shells tear up your comrades.

At the top of the beach is a fence that must be blown up. From there you go into another dangerous zone, and then into the trenches.

Its all very exciting and you forget the outside reality. I find it as entertaining qas Ma Johng or minesweeper - plus five.

Commanders who were unable to come to grips with this new type of warfare developed the concept of attrition. The idea was to defeat the enemy by destroying more men and equipment, than the enemy was able to destroy of your own. The side with the most men and equipment left at the end of a battle would then be declared the winner. Attrition of enemy soldiers and equipment became a goal of generals to prove that they were actually doing something successful.

Triage is a system used by medical or emergency personnel to ration limited medical resources when the number of injured needing care exceeds the resources available to perform care so as to treat the greatest number of patients possible.

When performed in accordance with accepted medical practices, triage is recognized and sanctioned by law in most countries.

When you are in need of a little direction (sing-along), and you are not sure which way to go (fingers on chin).
Walk out on a star-lit night and gaze up unto the show (sway a little). If those stars are twinkling bright (twiddle the fingers), and you have pretty good sight (hands in front), you'll see as clear as day the direction that is right (march a bit).

Leadership starts at the top, with the character of the leader, with your character. In order to lead others, you must first make sure your own house is in order. For example, the first line of The Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer states, "No one is more professional than I." But it takes a remarkable person to move from memorizing a creed to actually living that creed; a true leader is that remarkable person.

I didn't see anyone reading or using a laptop. Maybe its the lighting.

I'm not sure what the music was - I'm generally aware of that though. In the McDonalds its lite-rock or easy-motown or something like that.

In the Starbucks they sell the music at the counter. Savy. My fave was Old Madonald sung in various styles - broadway finale, soulfull, swinging, you name it. I tipped a whole dollar.

Scroll to the bottom for todays alnalytical subject, a collection of phrases entitled:

ANALOGIES YOU PROBABLY WON'T FIND IN GREAT LITERATURE

"John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met. "

Is nice because it is true, but a non-sequitur. Like are John and Mary speed freaks? We just don't know..

"Her eyes were like two brown circles with big black dots in the center.
"

Is funny because it takes something poetic - similies and makes them literal. At least thats why I think its funny.

Long separated by cruel fate, the star?crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.

Relies on CONTEXT and I think is probably one of the funnier jokes, though I've seen it done elsewhere, believe it or not. When something becomes recognizeable like this it becomes a Gag. As in, that old gag.

A clever saying; a witticism.

Sebastien Bourdais wins IROC race
Sun 17 Apr, 3:34 AM
2004 Champ Car World Series Champion Sebastien Bourdais started his week in strong fashion, winning the 2005 season opener in Long Beach, but his efforts at the end of the week may have opened even more eyes than the Long Beach win did.

Bourdais became the first Champ Car driver in 10 years to win a race in International Race of Champions (IROC) competition, storming to the lead early and holding off a fierce challenge from IROC's all-time leading race winner Mark Martin in the final laps to take the victory at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday.
"I knew it was going to be a tough fight in those last laps," Bourdais said. "I knew I had to try and keep the car low on the track but I was having a little trouble that made it tougher. It's a great feeling to win here. Thanks to the IROC people for letting me come here and compete with these guys. This is a great series."
The Champ Car World Series points leader had just one day of IROC practice leading up to Friday's race, owing to the fact that he had to travel cross-country to run in Champ Car testing Wednesday and Thursday in Portland.
Despite the lack of seat time, the Frenchman dominated the event in becoming the first foreign-born driver since 1992 to win an IROC race. The victory, along with the bonus points earned for leading the most laps and for leading at the halfway group boosts Bourdais into second in the 2005 IROC standings, just 10 points behind Martin.
Bourdais started from the pole Friday afternoon, a spot he inherited after a wreck not of his making in the Daytona IROC opener left him last in the Round 1 results. He put that spot to good use, shoulder World of Outlaws legend Steve Kinser aside on Lap 7 to take a lead he would hold for the next 30 trips around the 1.5-mile oval.
He fell behind reigning Nextel Cup champion Kurt Busch on a lap 37 restart brought on by Danny Lasoski's brush with the wall, but took the lead again on Lap 46 when Busch cut a tire and hit the wall. He led easily for the next few laps until Martin tracked him down with five laps to go. The NASCAR veteran tried to find a way around on the final orbits of the Texas track but could not find an opening as Bourdais punched his ticket to Victory Lane.
"Sebastien did a fabulous job," Martin said after Bourdais became the 47th driver ever to win an IROC event.

Many former F1 drivers were on the grid, including Germans Bernd Schneider and Heinz Harald Frentzen, Scotsman Allan McNish, Frenchman Jean Alesi and Finnish Mika Hakkinen, who made his racing return (albeit competing in a few rallies) after leaving F1 at the end of 2001.
Reigning DTM champion Mattias Ekström started from pole position while Jean Alesi lined up fifth on the grid, 10 places ahead of Mika Hakkinen.
Jean Alesi won the 37-lap race, followed by Mercedes team-mates Gary Paffett (+ 5"643) in second place and Bernd Schneider (+ 6"420) in third position.
“This has been a fantastic weekend," said Jean Alesi on DTM's official website. "The performance of the entire Mercedes-Benz squad was just outstanding. The hard work executed in the past weeks and months has paid off. It felt just great to be back on the highest step of the podium. Now I’ve proven that I’ve still got what it needs to win. I’m impressed that there was such a huge crowd in spite of the mixed conditions. The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic.“
Mika Hakkinen finished in eighth place despite receiving a drive-thru penalty after speeding in the pit area. Heinz Harald Frentzen retired on lap 15 lap after colliding with the Mercedes of Alexandros Margaritis.

You know - everyone: promotions, media, wierd money; speed and loop; art is, I dunno - bludheoned and then shot...or maybe it was the other way around; everybody I know joined the mob so...I have no friends. Actually - I like to demythologies - I get kidnaped and draged to these events and...they're not really open to the public; old roger pinsky ussed to be in magazines winning events that, I swear to god...never too place. Private tracks.

Anyways - warning - these are coming down the pike: a little note _ Fangio actually ran chevies when most everyone else ran Fords ( an excellent movie was made of all this, buut I never seem to be around when it's shown)

Could get interesting; back around when FDR jaimed a foot down their throat and made them build a decent car.
