Sounds like a exciting Art Fair but I don't get why Academic Art camouflaged with Kitsch is considered good -new??Have the businessmen with their “Pop Culture Mentality ” taken over the direction of the Art Scene with the perceptive Artist making objects for this taste?

rule to the exception

by Jareth (06.21.05 12:52 pm)

they are mostly elites merchants not business men, and workers not Artists, my one roommate says oh off to the “Art Store” again when we leave. What once seems to have been a hub for Artists, Intellectuals and those seeking and Alternative lifestyles is quickly becoming perceived as a playground for the Rich who can’t hack it in the reel world.

Still ptg is religion

by Toni Soprano (06.22.05 04:19 pm)

look at the illuminators of the Lindesfarne Gospels or the Book of Darrow, whether or not their images were of artistic value mattered little. they painted in the service of the lord. Look at the carver hacking on an unseen part of the flying buttresses on Chartre, Amiens, etc, they believed what they did had eternal merit in god's service. Nuff said.

I agree the merchants rule. Look at Koon's POPularity, he doesn't make, he is an astute CEO of an art company. Always below duChamp, however, in that the critical apparatus of perceiving art is never called into question. U want it in red, fine.

What's annoying is listening 2 some Assistant Gallery Director tell me regarding a sloppily installed piece ‘she's just graduated from Columbia.’ No shit I adjuncted there, the woman couldn't draw then she can't now. Which is okay, we r not back in the days of Classicism, where drwg is the foundation of ptg. Thank God! And look Jjjarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruff ruff eth keeps gamely plying forward, and he can't draw flies, cept outside. But it's when this artist is trying to render shit and it's embarassingly obvious she can't, but resorts to ‘well i'm trying to look bad’ that i think, yeah, all marketing.

Re: Buzz Words

by zipthwung (06.22.05 04:54 pm)

I learned to draw the Marvel way, and it shows. I never liked Picasso and the whole drawing with fire single line bullllshit. Sketching is so you get it write. If you can get it write the first time then do something else, its boring and hardly surprising. Which is why Picasso looks so dated now. Been done and been done. Do it over and over and send it to china to be produced for the masses.

So now I can't draws for shit because I stopped drawing. Drawing is for weak minded romantic rubes who thing rythm and lyricism are going to save the world or not. Well it aint and nothing will. But if you're not critiqueing I'm bored. Criticality is a lost art.

Deitch Projects set the tone for the month by heading off to Europe, leaving behind a gallery filled with robots, The labor-intensive agglomeration of funky stuff, originally made for museum shows in Brandeis and Melbourne, has the kind of youthful energy that was so painfully absent in Venice.

And it ain't rummage no more, either. An untitled cluster of 68 glass pint bottles painted with faces goes for $100,000, the bathroom installation is $100,000, the tower of five taggers is $150,000 and the big group of framed drawings and photos is $250,000.

Look it's so simple, u morons, when I worked as a curator, and u have a board that has it's stupid agenda's and a director that wants u to make her famous, if somebody sent me slides of a developed 'SERIES', and would even deliver the shit, and, moreover, the slide sheet looked good when viewed thru the light comeing in thru my office skylight, then I would def. consider, after a visit of course. Pandering? who the fuk cares?

Amazing w/ all our advance in the acutance of digi imaging, curators still won't budge until u send slides. As if the veracity of film based imagery is more authentic than digi. It must be fear of Photoshop magic, which i am guilty of. I've hooked some curators w/ images of paintings i've created in Photoshop based on an original image, then I've had to go make the dam painting. Who cares!

Also, should i do a butt joint or a mitre? Jesus its so fucking confusing.

also, when you are stretching canvas to the right tolerance, what should the newton meter read? I'm thinking eight by ten with alder or cherry supports. What should the weight of the canvas be? I like to paint thick, or at least i used to.

Also, tacks or staples?

Also, maybe cedar to keep the moths away from the rabit skin glue? Or is that my brain frying?

ok - a good joke/story bfrom an art egomaniac I'd rather ignore; talking to his uncle the genuis...both full of themselves; small 3 year old son on the floor drawing...goes on for a while...sudenly he gets up, picks up a small triangular file, and walks over to the long , heavy wooden bench that lines one of the long walls and start filling around thedge: file and them: woosh—blows the shavings off...goes on for a while...very carefull...finaly...done. Picksu p a red marker, carful fills in the gash , no words, but...yea...that looks ok...and then walks back to his pad and starts drawing again. He keeps yammering and finaly his gase decends and he notices that, in fact...the entire length of the bench in covered with these marks,,,

Ok - sounds ominouse: back to the letter A in the netherllands you guys:really...y kind of car.

Poem 2
by TB788-E10-D

The color of the patented rose
I brought for you is
a hundred angstroms into the infrared
and the color of the accompanying violets
is equally far into the ultra.

I can tell you baby that
my abdominal gear case temperature
rises more than two point three degrees centigrade
every time your proximity is under three point two meters.
That palindromic number pair must be a sign from on high.

Oh how I love you.

Let me count the several ways
I love you from Sunday:

zero.
one.
one zero.
one one.
one zero zero.
one zero one.
one one zero.
one one one.

That's eight ways from Sunday.
Oh please please baby be mine.
