Lots of good info on this site plus coming exhibit looks to have brought together some great work, film, video, music. Relates to ongoing discussions of freedom, history, progress, genres, conceptual, appropriation, finding form thru association, etc.

Can you believe that Tiger Woods is suing an artist for selling paintings of him?

Yes, which artist, and if you were an instant recognizable figure who signs deals for mega bucks wouldn't you, if some artist, and which artist is skimming from your estate? It sets a bad principle, everyone knows that if Tiger's copyrights are violated in such a way so would all others. If freedom is breaking copyright laws, of images, what rhyme or reason would there be; Chaos?

Art schools should be smarter, and since they (alumni) have a kind of duty to the style(the SF Funky or free form, LA Slick, NY look) of the schools they studied in, perhaps there should also be collegiate art competitions that would draw publicity, medals for the winners and cash and consignments for artists, then you would know what is to be had as the sports people well know. Instead of artists watching football, basketball, golf, soccer, and other sports, we would create a world art pageant of collegiate and professional level. Drafts into the art gallery arenas, consignments for Rhoplex, Schminke, Princeton Press, Harvard Hasty Pudding.
Why not the art world as we know it is now institutionalized, there are no movements any more but only now since the beginning of the college art schools, and graduate schools there is collegiate patriotisms, PRATT, SFAI, RISOD, COCHORAN. PRINCETON, Then we could watch the pageant and heralding of poetry, music, painting and sculpture awards like we watch sports, and society would be elevated and art would be freer in the hands of institutions, to only the most elite, players, and those who can't play can be given their outsiders awards and even....blab blab blab.

i believe that when first asked woods showed little interest in the fact that women were kept out

later one of his handlers made a statement in approximate solidarity with the women

but what do you expect from a guy whose dad thinks he's bigger than buddha and ghandi and who doesn't tip?

I was wondering why the black artists are so few and far between? I know of several from art school that were notable, and one who became proff. I knew of many in San Jose, and some here in Utah, they were too good, just too good. I did see one conceptual work, I think it was a Coffin, with poetry written on it, real original that was in 94. Name all of the great black artists of the last thirty years, besides Jackob Laurence and Laurence Jacobs.

i sat down one night to evalutate my feelings, and the freedom to express them. this night i was alone and am always alone to concentrate on myself. how often does one actually express what they really feel, in public, or through art. i think its too personal, too deep and much complex for one to anaylis, conceptualize and make public matter. how many artists does it take to screw in a light bulb? count damions dots.

Gotta agree with mmutt.

Did you know that Nike is the goddess of victory?

Of all the bucks spent on advertizing by that whitebread instituion of greed, not one of those namby-pambies ever stopped to notice that their company name refers to a god, and the god of victory

Remember all the ads with women covered in the sweat of solidarity?

Nike... just buy it

I'd move to portland in a second. i hear it has a nice art scene, and I'm all for victory and goddesses and stuff. Weiden and Kennedy - they are sure creative. Wish I was as smart as them. Well, gotta go.
