For a decade—1956 to 1966—the Ferus Gallery was the catalyst of a nascent modern art scene in Los Angeles, grooming idealistic beatniks into competitive, often brilliant artists. It also helped to solidify the careers of many of New York's shining stars, including Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and Jasper Johns.
