    Chun Kai Feng

    Chun Kai Feng’s first solo show in Singapore’s newly inaugurated Gillman Barracks comprises eleven new works that straddle geometric abstraction and readymade quotation. Totem, 2012, is a stack of five wood structures, neatly plastered over with a laminate called ando concrete, which are modeled after cast concrete benches found in public spaces in Singapore. The gentle upward curves on either end unintentionally evoke primitive totems or even Brancusi’s homages to flight, imbuing Chun’s work with a fortuitous and unexpectedly poetic vein of rich associations that flow forth from these unpromising
