There is a photo process employed in the preparation of silk-screening which reduces everything to two values. Somewhere in the vast range of photographic greys a mechanical or chemical decision is attained and the image is interpreted in only black or white. Whether Landsman actually takes advantage of such a process in executing his paintings is unimportant, but the same decisions, mechanical or mental, are reached and the results are probably identical except for the obvious intellectual control over subject selection and the application of some indifferent art-nouveau mannerisms. Female faces and figures predominate in indoor and exterior settings. The slight gimmick doesn’t survive. Two rooms filled with the dappled overly-activated canvases disallow any sort of individual impact.
