Developers on Tuesday unveiled a scale model of a $1.2 billion plan to revive the Los Angeles neighborhood around the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall by transforming it into a nightlife district, the San Jose Mercury-News reports. “Some of the big ideas we’ve already gotten from the public is that this has got to be the single place where the city of Los Angeles comes together for its celebrations,” said Phillip J. Enquist, the project’s chief planner. “The Chicago Millennium Park, which we were involved with, went from being freight yards to a parking lot and from a parking lot to . . . the new civic heart of the city.” Developers also envision the area, which encompasses the Museum of Contemporary Art, featuring works of art, condominium and office towers, and a cinema.
