In the cover story of this week’s New York Times Magazine, Michael Kimmelman takes an in-depth look at Dia:Beacon, which is set to open on May 18 and will be the biggest museum of contemporary art in the world. A former factory in a small town an hour north of New York, Dia:Beacon is the first museum dedicated to the generation of American artists that came of age during the 1960s and ’70s, the generation that includes Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, Walter De Maria, and Agnes Martin.
