A SHIFT IN FOCUS AT THE VALENCIA BIENNIAL

The second Valencia biennial, like the first in 2001, has been assembled by an international team of relatively high-profile curators, Sarah Douglas reports in the Art Newspaper. But while the 2001 biennial seemed to aim at being splashy and provocative (its theme was “The passions”), this year’s “The ideal city” goes more directly for the spirit and history of Valencia and is therefore arguably more palatable to the tourist board and private funders.
