Artnet reports that “Check List,” an exhibition of African contemporary art, will be anchoring the Venice Biennale’s focus on Africa in the festival’s Arsenale space. Works will be selected from the Sindika Dokolo African Collection of Contemporary Art, an institution based in Luanda, Angola, which contains approximately five hundred works by 140 artists from twenty-eight different African nations. Biennale curator Robert Storr has selected a team of experts to pick the most representative artworks for the African affair: Ethiopian curator Meskerem Assegued, Ghanaian journalist Ekow Eshun, American-born artist Lyle Ashton Harris, Yale professor Kellie Jones, and Nigerian curator Bisi Silva. “Check List” is curated by Cameroonian art critic Simon Njami and Angolan artist—and Sindika Dokolo Collection cofounder—Fernando Alvim.
