Georgetown University is preparing to construct a new space, the de la Cruz Gallery of Art, for painting, sculpture, performance, and installation, underwritten by collector Alberto de la Cruz. His parents, Rosa and Carlos, are well known arts philanthropists who opened the de la Cruz Collection Contemporary Art Space in Miami, reports Kriston Capps for the Washington City Paper. Both Alberto and his wife, Maria de la Cruz, are Georgetown alumni.
The new 2,500-square-foot gallery will offer shows of major modern and contemporary artists, according to Georgetown’s art history department chair Alfred Acres. Both de la Cruz and Georgetown University officials declined to disclose the monetary amount of his support.
