ANNE TERESA DE KEERSMAEKER RECEIVES GOLDEN LION FOR DANCE

A Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement has been awarded to Belgian dancer and choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker in dance. French-Greek composer Georges Aperghis has also received the award for music, and Swiss director Christoph Marthaler has been recognized in theater.

De Keermaeker founded the Rosas company in Brussels, which became the resident company of the La Monnaie Theater in Brussels from 1992 through 2007. She had earlier presented Rain, 2001, at the dance biennale. In 1992 the short black-and-white film Rosa choreographed by de Keersmaeker and directed by Peter Greenaway appeared in the Forty-ninth Venice International Film Festival.
