Armory Show’s Contemporary and Modern Sections to Merge
The New York Armory Show announced today that it will be restructuring the 2017 edition of the art fair. Among the changes that the organizers of the show are implementing are the merging of the modern and contemporary sections of the fair, the transformation of the former modern section into “Insights,” a subsection that will feature solo, two-person, or themed shows featuring twentieth-century art, and the introduction of a new curatorial initiative called “Platform,” which will focus on large-scale works, installations, and performances.
“We want to be much more than a platform for the commercial, we want to play a greater intellectual role in the artistic life of New York, expanding our talks, programs, performances, and commissioning of new artworks,” executive director Benjamin Genocchio said.
The 2017 show will take place from March 2 to March 5 at Piers 92 and 94.
