Tania Bruguera was arrested once again in Cuba this weekend, according to Hyperallergic’s Jillian Steinhauer. Officials also confiscated her passport and are allegedly bringing charges against her. During the arrests, Bruguera was injured by police: The Facebook page for her project #YoTambienExijo features photos of substantial bruises she says she received while being manhandled by cops. When the arrests took place, Bruguera was visiting and observing a weekly protest staged by the Ladies in White, comprising women from the families of jailed dissidents.
Bruguera also claims that she was spared the worst treatment: An officer specifically said, “not her, not her, she’s Tania.” But she says she was still “pulled by the hair, thrown into a bus, and handcuffed,” according to Steinhauer.
