ART BASEL AND BMW ANNOUNCE PHILIPP RüHR AND HENNING FEHR AS BMW ART JOURNEY AWARD WINNERS

Cologne-based video artists Philipp Rühr and Henning Fehr have been awarded the BMW Art Journey, sponsored by Art Basel and the car company, for their piece The Art of Memory: Dub Music and the CCTV Tower, 2015, a work that is “an investigation into the ever-growing interconnectedness of contemporary life through the metaphor of the loop, with the focal points being the Jamaican dub reggae music and the iconic CCTV tower in Beijing,” says Nicholas Forrest of Artinfo. Rühr and Fehr, whose work was examined in last year’s February issue of Artforum, were selected from a shortlist of three other artists who were exhibiting in “Positions” during Art Basel Miami Beach in 2015.

Art Basel states that the artists will go to Jamaica to interview dub musicians, then follow them on tour throughout Jamaica, Europe, and the United States, which will conclude with a trip to Beijing to record the CCTV tower’s architecture.
