The short list has been announced for the 2009 Art Fund Prize, the UK’s largest arts prize for museums and galleries, worth about $150,000. The four museums and galleries were selected following deliberations by a judging panel that includes filmmaker David Puttnam and artist Grayson Perry. The finalists are Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow; Orleans House Gallery, Twickenham; Ruthin Craft Center: the Center for the Applied Arts, Denbighshire; and Wedgwood Museum, Stoke-on-Trent.
For the first time, the general public can vote for a winner of the Art Fund Prize, in partnership with The Guardian. The winner of the poll will count as one vote at the final judges’ meeting.
The winner will be announced on June 18 at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London. Last year’s winner was the Lightbox museum and gallery in Woking. Before being sponsored by the Art Fund, the award was known as the Gulbenkian Prize.
