Art in General Announces Move to Brooklyn

The nonprofit organization Art in General, which has been in downtown Manhattan since 1981, will be temporarily relocating to DUMBO in Brooklyn as of January 2016 according to a report by Alex Greenberger in Artnews. They will be located on the ground floor of 145 Plymouth Street, near the Sculptors Guild, A.I.R. Gallery, and the nonprofit Smack Mellon. Art in General signed a three-year lease to the space for below the market rate and its first exhibition in the new space will be a collaboration with the Center of Contemporary Art in Tbilisi for a show of five Georgian artists: Nino Sekhniashvili, Gio Sumbadze, Thea Gvetadze, Mamuka Japharidze, and Nika Machaidze—opening on January 30, 2016.

Art in General’s move comes as another installment in a gradual shift of arts spaces to Brooklyn, including Eyebeam’s move in 2013 to Sunset Park.
