Art Institute of Chicago Receives Record $35 Million Bequest

The Art Institute of Chicago has announced its biggest cash bequest in its history: thirty-five million dollars, according to Darel Jevens in the Chicago Sun-Times. Bequeathed by Dorothy Braude Edinburg, the money will help the institute acquire new Asian art, as well as grow its holdings of prints and drawings. “We will use this incredible funding to carry Dorothy’s vision forward—to inspire, educate, and delight future generations through the collection and presentation of exceptional art,” said Art Institute president Douglas Druick.

The institute also just last year received a donation of art valued at over $400 million from Chicago philanthropist Irving Stenn Jr., as artforum.com previously reported.
