Artists Announced for 4th “Greater New York” at MoMA PS1

MoMA PS1 has announced the artist list for the fourth edition of “Greater New York,” opening October 11, 2015 and running through March 7, 2016. The latest iteration of the quinquennial show was curated by Peter Eleey with art historian Douglas Crimp; MoMA associate curator of media and performance Thomas Lax; and Mia Locks, assistant curator at MoMA PS1.

“Greater New York” began in 2000 as a joint venture between the combined staff at MoMA and MoMA PS1. In 2005, artists were selected by a committee led by Klaus Biesenbach which included Alanna Heiss, Glenn Lowry, Robert Nickas, Amy Smith-Stewart, and Ann Temkin, while the last iteration, in 2010, was curated by Klaus Biesenbach, Neville Wakefield, and Connie Butler.

While prior shows focused on emerging artists, according to press notes the 2015 edition plans to “examin[e] key points of connection and intersection between emerging and more established artists across New York, while also exploring aspects of earlier histories of the city itself, and its changing political, social, and architectural fabric.”

In other news, PS1 has also announced that the museum will be granting free admission to all “New Yorkers” for one year in honor of New York City artists, courtesy of the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation.
