The Ruya Foundation for Contemporary Culture in Iraq has announced details about the National Pavilion of Iraq at the Fifty-sixth Venice Biennale in May 2015. Titled “Invisible Beauty,” the exhibition is being curated by Philippe Van Cauteren, artistic director of S.M.A.K. (Museum for Contemporary Art) in Ghent.
The exhibition will spotlight five Iraqi artists based in their home country and around the world: photographers Latif Al Ani and Akam Shex Hadi, performance artist Rabab Ghazoul, ceramicist and sculptor Salam Atta Sabri, and painter Haider Jabbar.
The exhibition will also feature a display of over 500 drawings made by refugees in northern Iraq. Several of these drawings have been chosen by Ai Weiwei for a publication being released on the occasion of the Biennale.
