Artists Space Appoints Miriam Katzeff Deputy Director

Artists Space, the nonprofit gallery and pioneer of New York’s alternative arts scene, announced today that Miriam Katzeff will become the organization’s new deputy director. In addition, Hana Tran was named exhibitions manager and producer. The venue is currently preparing for the opening of its new home in TriBeCa.

“We’re thinking every day about what might unfold inside 80 White Street—how a new space and a radical and open programmatic vision can catalyze great things,” executive director and chief curator Jay Sanders said in a statement. “With our enhanced team of colleagues and the guidance of our passionately engaged board, I know that we will inaugurate a dynamic new reality for Artists Space beginning later this year.”

Previously, Katzeff served as the director of Primary Information—a nonprofit devoted to publishing artists’ books and writings, which she cofounded with James Hoff in 2006—and as director of Team Gallery, where she worked from 2005 to 2014. Katzeff has also led a number of projects as an independent curator; she organized a program of political video at the Swiss Institute in New York and cocurated exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia and MoMA PS1 in New York.

Tran is a former project manager at Jenny Holzer Studio, which she joined in 2015. While working with Holzer, she oversaw site-specific commissions and major exhibitions with institutions such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Tate Modern, and the Guggenheim Bilbao.
