Artnews the 112-year-old art publication, has been sold to Skate Capital, a private asset management firm owned by Sergey Skaterschikov, reports Patricia Cohen for the New York Times. The magazine has been owned by Milton Esterow and Judith Esterow since 1972; no price for the sale has been released. “There is a lot that can be done with the brand to build a more sustainable and robust business model, but as far as editorial is concerned it’s hands off completely,” Skaterschikov told Cohen. “I’m not going to meddle.” Skaterschikov is a founder of the art-investment report Skate, and from 2012–13 he owned a significant stake in the Vienna Art Fair; his company is also an investor in the online auction house Paddle8, though he says there are no plans to bring the two together.
