ARTPRIZE DEDICATES $40,000 TO CURATORIAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

ArtPrize, the cash-rich art award run by social media mogul Rick DeVos, will now be giving out $220,000 in support grants for seventh annual exhibition opening this fall, reports ’s Jeffrey Kaczmarczyk.

Emerging curators can now take part too: A new $40,000 curatorial fellowship program will provide $10,000 for four fellows “working alongside the curatorial department of four major institutions to create exhibitions in their space while also curating their own exhibition at a separate location under the mentorship of the major institution,” writes Kaczmarczyk. Grand Rapids Art Museum, Kendall College of Art and Design, SiTE:LAB, and Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts are the four participating venues.

In addition, a new $30,000 venue-grant program will support the spaces organizing exhibitions featuring the twenty-five artists who participate in the ArtPrize exhibition and competition.

Meanwhile, ArtPrize will scale back its cash prizes from $560,000 to $500,000.
