The Baltimore Museum of Art has announced that Christopher Bedford will be its new director. He succeeds Doreen Bolger, who served as director of the institution from 1998 until her retirement in 2015. Bedford is currently the director of the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University, and will assume his new role on August 15, 2016.

Prior to joining the museum at Brandeis, Bedford was the chief curator at the Wexner Center for the Arts at Ohio State University from 2008 to 2012, assistant curator and curatorial assistant in the department of contemporary art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art from 2006 to 2008, and consulting curator in the department of sculpture and decorative Arts for the J. Paul Getty Museum from 2006 to 2008 as well. Bedford was appointed to the Rose Art Museum in 2012 and was recently named commissioner for the US pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale, presenting an installation of new work by Mark Bradford. Despite his new appointment in Baltimore, the Rose and Bedford will both continue as organizers of the exhibition in Venice, also cocurated by Katy Siegel, the curator at large for the Rose Art Museum.
