Beau Rutland and Lindsay Charlwood Join Matthew Marks Gallery

Matthew Marks, the veteran New York gallery that operates three spaces in Manhattan and two spaces in Los Angeles, has welcomed Beau Rutland and Lindsay Charlwood to its team. Rutland, a former associate curator of contemporary art at the Cleveland Museum of Art and a regular contributor to Artforum and Flash Art, was appointed to the newly created position of director of exhibitions.

Rutland also previously worked as a curatorial assistant for the Whitney Museum of American Art and has curated solo shows of work by artists such as Anicka Yi, Kara Walker, and Dan Graham, as well as the two-person exhibition “Gloria: Robert Rauschenberg & Rachel Harrison” at the Cleveland Museum of Art in 2015. His writing for Artforum ranges from features to reviews of exhibitions by Jennifer Packer, Peter Saul, Reena Spaulings, and Faith Ringgold, among others.

Charlwood, a native Angeleno, comes to the gallery from Regen Projects, the Los Angeles contemporary arts space that was founded as Stuart Regen Gallery by Stuart Regen and Shaun Caley in 1989. During her five-year tenure as a director, she worked closely with the gallery’s roster of artists and oversaw numerous exhibitions. She is also a coeditor of the publication L.A. Object & David Hammons Body Prints (Tilton Gallery, 2011).
