BRETON TOTAL DOUBLES PRESALE ESTIMATE

After two weeks of turbulent auctions—inevitably described as surreal—the sale of André Breton’s personal art collection has fetched 46 million euros (50 million dollars), twice the presale estimate, reports Paul Webster in The Guardian. The auctions, which went on late into the night to accommodate telephone bidders from the US, were frequently interrupted by protesters.
