Carolina Garcia Jayaram has been named chief executive officer of United States Artists. The organization was founded in 2005 by the Ford, Rockefeller, Rasmuson, and Prudential Foundations with $22 million; it distributes up to $50,000 in unrestricted grants annually to visual, performing, literary, and mixed-media artists in the United States. In the past five years, the foundation has raised a $10 million permanent endowment and bestowed $17.5 million on 350 artists.
Since 2010 Jayaram has acted as the executive director of the Chicago Artists Coalition and prior to that was the founder and executive director of Cannonball, a live-work residency in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District. Said chairman Steven Oliver: “Jayaram possesses the perfect blend of vision and determination to ensure that our organization will grow as we continue in our commitment to support a thriving and vibrant cultural community nationwide.”
