CéCILE DEBRAY APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF MUSéE DE L’ORANGERIE
French Minister of Culture Audrey Azoulay has announced that Cécile Debray will join the Musée de l’Orangerie as director. The appointment was recommended by Laurence des Cars, president of the Musée d’Orsay in Paris and former director of the Musée de l’Orangerie.
Since 2008, Debray has served as curator at several institutions, including the National Museum of Modern Art housed in the Centre Pompidou. Among the many major exhibitions she’s curated are “Balthus” (2015) at the Villa Medici in Rome, “Duchamp” (2014) at the Centre Pompidou, and “Matisse, Cézanne, Picasso L’aventure des Stein” (2011) at the Grand Palais’s national galleries.
Debray recently curated the exhibition “Bacon / Nauman, Face à Face,” which will open in June at the Musée Fabre in Montpellier, and “Derain, 1904–1914,” which will be staged at the Centre Pompidou in October. She is also working on an upcoming exhibition of Dada artists as well as a program of African art, both opening at the Musée de l’Orangerie in the fall.
