Cecilia Alemani to Curate Italian Pavilion at 2017 Venice Biennale

Cecilia Alemani, the director of High Line Art in New York and the curator of Frieze Projects at Frieze New York, has been announced as the curator of the Italian Pavilion for the fifty-seventh edition of the Venice Biennale, to be held May 13 through November 26, 2017.

Alemani has been the Donald R. Mullen, Jr. director and chief curator of High Line Art since 2011, where she’s produced and exhibited work by more than two hundred artists. From 2009 to 2010 she directed the X-Initiative space in New York.

The last curator of the pavilion, Vincenzo Trione, was the youngest ever chosen for the role. His exhibition for Venice was “an attempt to reflect on Italian identity,” as he told the Italian magazine Artribune.
