Anny Shaw of the Art Newspaper writes that Cheyenne Westphal, the former international head of contemporary art at Sotheby’s, has been appointed chairman of Phillips. She will be replacing Ed Dolman—who will continue to serve as CEO of the company— and will start sometime in 2017.
Westphal started at Sotheby’s in 1990. She was responsible for helping to put together the 2008 Damien Hirst auction, titled “Beautiful Inside My Head Forever,” which brought the auction house over $175 million. Her hire is part of an expanded effort at Phillips to broaden its contemporary art interests.
