Cody Choi and Lee Wan to Represent Korea at the 2017 Venice Biennale

According to Hanae Ko at ArtAsiaPacific, the artists Cody Choi and Lee Wan have been selected to represent Korea at the 2017 Venice Biennale. Seoul-based Daehyung Lee, who organized the 2009 and 2010 iterations of the “Korean Eye” exhibition series at London’s Saatchi Gallery and who is currently the art director of Hyundai in Seoul, will serve as the curator of the pavilion. The group exhibition that will be staged in the pavilion has been described by Lee as “presenting semi-fictive worlds that reinvent reality and engage our imagination, trigger our empathy, and pique our curiosity through understated means that overall emphasize our human nature and psychological complexity.”

Lee Wan will create an installation that narrates the life of Mr. K, an anonymous journalist who witnessed almost a century of Korean history, using his personal archive of roughly 1,400 photographs. The true identity of Mr. K will remain under wraps until later this year.
