The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington announced Thursday that it had eliminated fourteen positions at the museum and its College of Art and Design, and a total of eighteen jobs over all this month, reports the New York Times. In a news release, the Corcoran said that the positions eliminated ranged from entry-level jobs to senior management and that the reductions represented 5.6 percent of its full- and part-time staff. The museum said it was also making other cost-cutting moves in response to the economic slowdown, including extending its hiring freeze and suspending contributions to workers’ pension plans starting in May. In a statement, Paul Greenhalgh, the director and president of the Corcoran, said its coming exhibitions and building restorations would continue as planned.
