David Chipperfield to Renovate Neue Nationalgalerie

Catherine Hickey of Bloomberg reports that David Chipperfield will oversee a major renovation of the Neue Nationalgalerie. Construction is set to begin in 2015 and will last three years. The landmark building, designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1968—the architect’s only work in Germany after World War II—has never undergone modernization and will be closed during renovations. Hickey adds that Chipperfield has worked “extensively in Berlin,” recently completing renovations on the city’s Neues Museum.
