David Geffen Donates $25 Million to LACMA’s Academy of Film Museum

David Geffen has bestowed $25 million on the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ new museum, reports Nicole Sperling of the Los Angeles Times. Designed by Renzo Piano and Zoltan Pali, the museum is dedicated to the history of film and will have a theater named after Geffen housed on the campus of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. His donation is part of a $300 million capital campaign—with Geffen’s gift over half has now been raised—chaired by Bog Iger, Disney’s chairman and chief executive. Annette Bening and Tom Hanks are cochairs. Said Iger: “David's support of this project is transformative. It takes a large and diverse group of supporters to built a project on the scale of the Academy Museum.” The museum is slated to open in 2017.
