David Zwirner to Open Third New York Location

David Zwirner will be opening his third New York location, this one on the Upper East Side, Robin Pogrbin of the New York Times reports. Zwirner will share the space with Adler Beatty, a new advisory firm founded by Richard Feigen Gallery director Frances Beatty and her son, Alexander Adler.

Located at Thirty-Four East Sixty-Ninth Street, Zwirner will use the gallery for private viewings, special projects, and historical exhibitions. Zwirner plans to begin hosting programming there in the fall. The current tenant of the space, Richard Feigen Gallery, is relocating to Thirty-Six East Seventy-Third Street.

Beatty told Nate Freeman of Artnews that she was looking for someone to move into the space, when she ran into Kristine Bell, a partner at David Zwirner, and learned that the gallery had been searching for a new location for the past two years. “After thirty-seven years on the Upper East Side, it’s great to see it being revived,” Beatty said.

Adler Beatty also represents the estate of Ray Johnson and is currently working on staging an exhibition of his works at Matthew Marks’s West Twenty-Fourth Street location, opening May 5. Zwirner, who runs two galleries in Chelsea, one in London, and a Hong Kong space that is set to open next year, used to co-operate Zwirner & Wirth with Hauser & Wirth founder Iwan Wirth in the building next door, but they shuttered the space in 2009.
