Denver Art Museum Appoints New Asian Art Curator

The Denver Art Museum’s new Joseph de Heer Curator of Asian Art is Tianlong Jiao, who’s heading to the museum from San Francisco’s Asian Art Museum, reports the Denver Post’s John Wenzel.

Jiao, who has a Ph.D. In archaeology from Harvard, has worked as chief curator of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum in Hong Kong and chairman of the anthropology department at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii. At San Francisco, he was department head and curator of Chinese art. He’s been the author or coauthor of more than seventy academic papers, as well as six books.

“Tianlong is an energetic and ambitious curator whose expertise and extensive connections in Asia will prove to be an invaluable asset to the museum and our public programs,” said Christoph Heinrich, Frederick and Jan Mayer Director of the Denver Art Museum.
