Dineo Seshee Bopape Wins $100,000 Future Generation Art Prize

The Pinchuk Art Center in Kiev announced today that South African artist Dineo Seshee Bopape has been named the winner of the 2017 Future Generation Art Prize, which recognizes contemporary artists of up to thirty-five years of age. Bopape will receive a total of $100,000, with $60,000 as an award and $40,000 in support of the production of a new work. An additional $20,000 will support a residency program for Special Prize winner Phoebe Boswell, an artist from Kenya who lives and works in the UK.

The international jury consisted of Nicholas Baume, director and chief curator of the Public Art Fund, New York; Iwona Blazwick, director of Whitechapel Art Gallery, London; Björn Geldhof, artistic director of the Pinchuk Art Center, Kiev; Mami Kataoka, chief curator of the Mori Art Museum; Koyo Kouoh, founding artistic director of Raw Material Company, Dakar; Jochen Volz, curator of the Thirty-Second São Paulo Biennial and general director of Pinacoteca, São Paulo; and Jérôme Sans, cofounder of Palais de Tokyo, Paris.
