The El Museo del Barrio board has chosen Michael J. Garcia to be its new chairman, according to Artnews’s John Chiaverina.
A partner with the international law firm Kirkland & Ellis, Garcia has been vice chair of El Museo’s board for two years. Said executive director Jorge Daniel Veneciano, “Michael is the perfect choice to see us through the next phase of El Museo’s development.”
Garcia is replacing Tony Bechara, who will remain on the board with the title of chairman emeritus. El Museo del Barrio, based in New York, is the oldest museum in the United States devoted to Latino art.
