Entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa Awarded Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters

Yusaku Maezawa, a former pop star who became an e-commerce entrepreneur, has been awarded France’s Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters, writes Anny Shaw of the Art Newspaper. The ceremony took place at the Brooklyn Museum in New York, where Maezawa’s Jean-Michel Basquiat painting Untitled, 1982—which he purchased for a record $110 million at Sotheby’s last May—is temporarily hanging. The work is currently on a “world tour,” and its next destination is the Seattle Art Museum. No other locations have yet been announced for displaying the work, and it is not clear whether the painting will show up at any institutions in France.
