Facing Financial Woes, Carnegie Museum of Art Lays Off Staff Members

After seeing an operating deficit of $300,000 in its annual budget of ten million dollars, the Carnegie Museum of Art revealed that it was forced it to terminate six full-time positions and one part-time job, reports the Pittsburg Post-Gazette’s Marylynne Pitz.

Said Lynn Zelevansky, the museum’s director since August 2009: “We deeply regret that positions of current staff members are being affected.”

Curatorial, exhibitions, marketing, publications, and education positions were terminated. Employees were given severance pay based in part on their length of service.

“Every department lost people. Everybody was affected,” Zelevansky said.
