Boston-based artist and philanthropist Fay Chandler has passed away, reports the Boston Globe’s Bryan Marquard. As a patron, Chandler gave away more than $1 million per year to arts institutions and other causes. In 1995, she founded the Art Connection, which places donated artworks in social-service agencies and other nonprofit institutions. Since its beginnings, Art Connection has placed 6,745 works by 409 artists in 369 agencies.

Said Paul S. Grogan, president of the Boston Foundation, “I think you would have to say she has been a pivotal figure in arts philanthropy in this city. Certainly she was one of the most active and generous of donors.”

As an artist, Chandler created pieces that are now in the collections of the DeCordova Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the Chrysler Museum of Art, among other institutions.
