FIAC Satellite Fair, l’Officielle, to Close After Only Two Years

L'Officielle, a satellite showcase for younger galleries spawned by Paris's grande-dame FIAC art fair, has been canceled after only two years. The news comes shortly after the suspension of FIAC Los Angeles and the sudden cancellation of Paris Photo Los Angeles. All three events are organized by Reed Exhibitions.

The reason for l’Officielle's cancellation, according to FIAC director Jennifer Flay, is decreased attendance and disappointing sales. She told “We have not been able to guarantee success to over half our exhibitors.” Flay also cited competition from newcomer fair Paris Internationale, an alternative gallery-initiated projected launched in 2015, during FIAC week. Attracting many smaller galleries with its friendlier costs (at around $4,300 for a stand instead of nearly $13,000 at l’Officielle), Paris Internationale reported high attendance and brisk sales.
