Film Society of Lincoln Center Names Thomas Beard As New Programmer at Large
The Film Society of Lincoln Center today announced the appointment of Thomas Beard as programmer at large. Beard will work alongside the director of programming Dennis Lim, associate director of programming Florence Almozini, assistant programmer Dan Sullivan, and the other programmer at large Rachael Rakes on festivals, series, and special events throughout the year.
Thomas Beard is a founder and director of Light Industry, a venue for film and electronic art in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and he has also organized screenings elsewhere for Artists Space, BAMcinématek, the Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive, the Centre Pompidou, the Museum of Modern Art, and Tate Modern. He also cocurated the film programs for the 2012 Whitney Biennial and the 2010 edition of “Greater New York” at MoMA PS1. He has written for Artforum, The Believer, Film Comment, frieze, Texte zur Kunst, and Triple Canopy in addition to currently teaching in the art writing MFA program at the School of Visual Arts.
The first series Beard will be working on in his new role at Film Society will be the most comprehensive survey ever assembled of queer cinema before Stonewall, screening next April.
