Firelei Báez Named Winner of the 2015 Catherine Doctorow Prize for Contemporary Painting

Brooklyn-based Firelei Báez is the recipient of the 2015 Catherine Doctorow Prize for contemporary painting. Given every two years, the award comes with fifteen thousand dollars and a solo exhibition at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art. Báez's show is slated to open on September 25, 2015 and run through January 15, 2016. Said Rebecca Maksym, curator of exhibitions at the museum: “I'm absolutely thrilled for Firelei and am eager to present her work in a new environment where audiences can participate in a more dynamic conversation about the complexity of cultural identity.” Báez's work is currently on view in this year's edition of Prospect New Orleans, curated by Franklin Sirmans.
