First House Designed by Gaudí to Reopen as Museum in 2016

Casa Vicens, the first house designed by Antoni Gaudí and now a UNESCO World Heritage building, will reopen to the public for the first time in the autumn of next year, after being renovated into a museum, according to the Art Newspaper’s Victoria Stapley-Brown and Julie Paulais. Hired by a ceramics factory owner, Gaudí created the Barcelona building’s intricate facade, its interior, and its garden.

Gaudí’s first house is “an essential work for understanding his unique architectural language and the development of modernism in Barcelona,” says Mercedes Mora, the executive director of the museum.

Unfortunately, the house won’t be presented in its original condition: “Many large parcels of land around the house that were once a garden were sold, with new buildings constructed on the property,” wrote the Art Newspaper.
