Felix LA, the contemporary art fair cofounded by collector and television executive Dean Valentine and brothers Al Morán and Mills Morán, has announced it will return to Los Angeles’s Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel for its second edition from February 13 to February 16, 2020.
“Felix was successful beyond anything we could have imagined when we started out,” the cofounders said in a statement. “It shows how much need and demand there is for a different kind of art fair—one that privileges connection and conversation as much as commerce.”
Its inaugural edition, which took place from February 14 to February 17, 2019, featured forty-one international galleries from North America, Europe, China, Australia, and South Africa, and coincided with Frieze LA’s inauguration, the Spring/Break Art Show, and Art Los Angeles Contemporary.
The fair welcomed over twelve thousand guests and saw strong sales, including the Hammer Museum’s acquisition of a film work by artist Alessandro Pessoli, represented by New York’s Anton Kern Gallery, and Jessica Silverman Gallery’s sold-out presentation of works by Woody de Othello.
The New York–based Jack Hanley Gallery said of the fair, “Between good collectors, friends, excellent sales, music, and just twenty feet to the pool, Felix had the remarkable, intimate atmosphere that the organizers were aiming for.”
The list of exhibitors this year also included Bodega, New York; Bortolami, New York; Neue Alte Brücke, Frankfurt; Canada, New York; Château Shatto, Los Angeles; Bridget Donahue, New York; Marlborough Contemporary, London and New York; and White Columns, New York. Participating fees ranged from $4,000 for the smallest hotel room to $10,000 for a penthouse.
